Last summer, during my Davao Food Appreciation Tour, I got the chance to participate in the Pamahaw sa Tibolo Village activity sponsored by the Department of Tourism Region XI.
Thanks to Regional Director Art Boncato, I was able to experience a traditional breakfast menu with our brothers and sisters of the Bagobo Tribal Community in Kapatagan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
The trip from Davao City took around three hours so we were really hungry when we arrived there. We were not disappointed and got a real breakfast treat.
We were served salted dried fish, vegetable salad and everyone’s favorite that morning, the nilutlot na manok sa gata, which is basically chicken cooked in bamboo with coconut milk – flavorful and creamy.
But of course, the most interesting part for me was the rice coffee they served. It’s my first time to drink that and I must say, it does taste like “real coffee”.
How do you make coffee out of rice? I’m reserving that for another blog post, so for the meantime, enjoy this view of the Tibolo Village community house where we had our breakfast.
Beyond that sight is actually a majestic view of Mt. Apo. Unfortunately, the peak was covered with clouds that day so I decided not to take a photo of it anymore. But I’ll definitely will when I come back to Davao.
