Jose Karlo’s Coffee in Tacloban, Leyte
Looking for a gourmet coffee shop in Tacloban? Then go to Jose Karlo’s Coffee.
Last time I was there, I got the chance to visit their branch right across Sto. Nino Church along Juan Luna Street.

First of all, JK (as locals call it), is a coffee shop and an internet cafe. A homegrown coffee shop where one can definitely relax and hangout with friends.

Their menu is varied. They don’t only serve pastries and cakes but also sandwiches, pancakes and even crepes.
But I didn’t go there to eat, I went there to drink and here’s their signature Jose Karlo’s Best ice blended coffee drink.

I failed to ask what’s inside Jose Karlo’s best but based on the taste, I’d say it’s a chocolate-caramel ice blended drink. Nothing extraordinary about it, in my opinion. Yet nevertheless, I did find it refreshingly good and worth its price.
Another drink which I got to try is their Mescoccino Mocha – I believe it’s their own version of the classic Mocha Frappe from Starbucks. The taste is a bit too sweet but the distinct mocha flavor gives the drink a strong finish.

According to the people I’ve met in Tacloban, Jose Karlo’s strengths lies in its pastries and its very homey ambiance that could rival the more expensive gourmet coffee shops in Manila.
I would have to agree as I saw that most of the people there where either eating or chatting with friends. There’s also a few who were just quietly reading in a corner.

And that’s Jose Karlo’s Coffee for you – a place you should definitely visit if you find yourself in Tacloban. You can visit them at the corner of Juan Luna and P. Zamora St. or at their branch in Robinson’s Place Tacloban.
