Kapeng barako is probably the only coffee I can confidently drink “black”. Its natural sweetness and bold flavor has always been a savory favorite of mine.
And if you’re a kapeng barako lover like me, then you might want to check out Cafe De Lipa. A coffee shop that doesn’t only serve the Philippine Liberica but is also 100% Filipino owned.
I’ve been to their STAR tollway branch in Petron several times already, but it’s just recently that I was able to take photos so I could write about it here. 🙂
Cafe De Lipa looks and feels like your typical coffee shop, a mix of Starbucks and Figaro to my impression. Their beverage menu offers a variety of drinks similar to what you can order in other cafes.
The Perfezza drinks are the hot and iced coffees while the Celleto are the ice blended coffees. Meanwhile, the classic brewed coffee is called the Barako Joe (available hot or iced).
That day, I ordered my usual drink there – the Grande Mocha Celleto Ice Blended Coffee.
The first time I ordered this one, I was comparing the taste to Starbucks’ Mocha Frappuccino; and concluded that its foreign counterpart was better.
But after several visits to Cafe De Lipa, and getting the same drink, I’ve come to love the taste and began to appreciate the uniqueness of its flavor.
Aside from the drinks, Cafe De Lipa also offers a variety of pastries and Pinoy food like the tinapa and adobo pate with pandesal – both of which are excellent, I must say. (I’ll take photos next time)
And the good news, you don’t have to go to Lipa, Batangas to try them.
They already have several branches in Metro Manila – specifically along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, in SM Mall of Asia, Market! Market! mall and several others coming soon.
